CNY 13 - Tong Tong Cheng..

Chinese New Year won't be the same without Lion Dance. Chinese associations have their own lion dance troupes that will perform for homes and offices during CNY. It is considered as something auspicious. Especially for businesses. This was taken at a shopping mall. The outlets will pay the troupes to perform. The more 'lions' they engaged the higher the price is. The lion dance is accompanied by drums and cymbals.
A truly authentic symbol of the Chinese culture, at its best.
I used to be scared of these 'lions' when I was a kid. Now I think they are cool.
If you have not seen a lion dance performance, do head down to the nearest Chinatown during CNY next time. You won't regret it.

I can see why you were scared as a kid. They must have seemed huge. Cool photo.

Ten years ago I saw a spectacular Lion Dance in Toronto, performed by members of the Kung Fu Athletic Association. A wonderful thing to experience.

(One of the little kids in the picture seems to be scared, too.)

I have seen only photos of the dancing lions and dragons. When I was a kid I have been wondering where their stories came from... I have read in the bible about them, dragons are depicted as terrifying monsters, serpentlike devourers and no wonder some kids got scared. but as stuffed toys they are cute ha..
