October Theme Day - Cemetery / Tombstones

This is my first theme day :) This is an Indian cemetery, quite different from the Chinese and Muslim cemetery in terms of the structure of the tombstones. Compared to tombstones of other religions which are simpler, the structures of these tombstone are more elaborate. I find the 'umbrella' structure quite unique, I don't know the meaning of it though. (And I didn't have the guts to go near to inspect :P)

I don't think I've seen an Indian cemetery before. Here in Sydney we have various sections of general cemeteries, but not sure about Indian (I guess Hindu Indian?)

Hi All.. thanks for the comments. Actually it's my first time going to an Indian cemetery as well.

Sally, I am not sure, but I think it should be a Hindu Indian cemetery.

I like the umbrella structure too. But it needs a table, some chairs, and some drinks. A little strange for a gravesite.

Death and/or remembrance must be very important in the culture there.

The cemetery looks very crowded. I like the various structures--good shot!

Very interesting ... I found a wikipedia entry which stated umbrellas are among the traditional insignia used even now only by the Karavas of Sri Lanka at their weddings and funerals.

Denton..thanks for the info. It explains the purpose of the umbrella-like structures.
